GOVERNMENT GAZETTE UPDATE

  • Some national departments are posting published notices on their websites, but:
    • the eGazette is still offline, and
    • the South African Government website ‘documents’ section has not been updated since 1 February.

 

NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE

  • From 1 March, the rate for ‘each ordinary hour worked’ will be increased by R1.50 to R23.19, according to a media statement from Employment & Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi.

 

BASIC CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT ACT EARNINGS THRESHOLD

  • On 9 February, the Department of Employment and Labour posted a notice on its website amending the threshold.

 

SOCIAL SECURITY

  • The Department of Social Development has published its inaugural social security review and, according to an accompanying media statement, will ‘shortly’ call for the submission of chapters for its next volume.

 

SEXUAL OFFENCES COURTS

  • Draft regulations reflecting certain provisions in the 2021 Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act Amendment Act have been released for public comment.

 

CRITICAL SKILLS

  • On 2 February, the updated list was published in the Department of Home Affairs website’s ‘notices’ section.

 

COVID-19

  • On 9 February, a Government Gazette notice was posted on the Department of Basic Education website:
    • updating ministerial directives already issued under the State of Disaster, and
    • reflecting relaxed measures on school attendance and social distancing gazetted on 1 February.
